Please be advised that as a practice we have a policy in place regarding the prescribing of Fexofenadine which is supported nationally by NHS England and locally by Derby and Derbyshire ICB.
Fexofenadine is classed as a self-care item for mild to moderate hay fever / seasonal rhinitis and therefore will not be prescribed by the practice. Fexofenadine 120mg can be purchased readily and relatively inexpensively from community pharmacies. Some patients may have previously been prescribed Fexofenadine 180mg which is a prescription only item however, it is not licensed to treat hay fever, only chronic idiopathic urticaria and therefore will not be prescribed or recommended under the hay fever / seasonal rhinitis indication.
