Appointments

URGENT APPOINTMENTS

If you have an URGENT MEDICAL ISSUE please phone us on 01246 273 224 - our phone lines open at 8am. Please phone as soon as you can - our appointments get booked up very quickly due to VERY HIGH demand.

The Patient Support Team will deal with your urgent medical request.

This Team have been trained to ask you questions so that your request can be triaged in a timely manner and enable your issue to be dealt with by the most appropriate person within an appropriate timescale.

If you feel unable to inform them of the issue they may only be able to offer you routine contact.

ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS

In line with Government targets and current patient need, many of our GP appointments are "book on the day" and are triaged by the GP oncall.

We do provide "bookable in advance routine appointments" for GPs which are released on a daily basis; due to very high demand, these get booked very quickly.

Please ring as close to 8.00am that morning to book in with the GP of your choice. This may not always be possible as this is a very busy time of the day for our telephone lines but our Patient Support Team will always do their best to accommodate you.

Please remember:

  • Only one problem can be dealt with per appointment.
  • If you need longer, please ask for a longer appointment.

The Right Care in the Right Place by the Right Person

To benefit all patients and to try to ease pressure on our services we first ask you to consider the reason for contacting your GP.

Could a local pharmacist help you?

Pharmacists can give you advice on a range of conditions and suggest medicines that can help.

They may also be able to offer treatment and some prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP (this is called Pharmacy First). Conditions they can treat as part of Pharmacy First are:

  • earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
  • impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
  • infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
  • shingles (aged 18 years and over)
  • sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
  • sore throat (aged 5 years and over)
  • urinary tract infections or UTIs (women aged 16 to 64 years)

Nurse Practitioner

Our Nurse Practitioner is a very experienced Nurse who has undergone extensive and additional training to enable her to treat common health problems.

Her role is to see some of the same day urgent cases, which means we can see patients more quickly.

The following complaints can be dealt with by our Nurse Practitioner, who if necessary, will ask the GP to see you as well.

Back pain

Asthma, COPD flare ups, Chest infection

Cold and Flu symptoms

Sinusitis, Tonsillitis, Sore throat

Diarrhoea and vomiting, Gastroenteritis

Ear infections, Ear pain, Blocked ears

Conjunctivitis

Vaginal discharge, Abnormal menstrual bleeding

Hay fever

Sexual health problems

Skin problems – Such as infected spots, wounds, grazes, rashes, eczema

Urinary tract infections (We will need a urine sample)

Please note that our Nurse Practitioner will see patients over the age of 2 and cannot see pregnant women or deal with mental health problems.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a Practice Nurse rather than a Doctor. Practice Nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly. Apart from during our core hours, we have a small number of appointments available for Practice Nurses during our extended hours surgeries on Wednesday or Thursday evenings and on one Saturday per month.

Home

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible.

If you do need a home visit, PLEASE PHONE US BEFORE 10:30am.

You will only get a home visit if you are housebound or are deemed too ill to visit the practice following clinical triage.  Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details when you make your request.

We have a specialist Acute Home Visiting Team run by Chesterfield and Dronfield PCN and it might be one of their highly skilled team and not your GP who comes out to you.

You can also be visited at home by a Community/District Nurse if you are referred by your GP.

ADMINISTRATIVE ENQUIRIES

We have an easy way to contact us for Administrative enquiries between 8am and 5pm which reduces our telephone queues!

Please go to “Contact Us” on this website and follow the simple instructions.

Your message will be reviewed and you will receive a response within three working days. This may be a text or telephone response.

Cancel an Appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
